3. Getting Started

This section is intended for first-time users. Especially if you haven't run the SETI@home client before you should read on.

If this is the first time ever you try to start the SETI@home client don't try it via Ksetiwatch! This is because the folks at Berkeley want you to create a new account, and this can only be done interactively. To do so, open a console window, change to the directory containing the S@h client (e.g., `cd /(yourhome)/setiathome'), and start the client by typing `./setiathome'. After entering all relevant information, the S@h client should upload a new work unit and start crunching data.

Now it's time to start Ksetiwatch if it's not already running. To add your client to the list of S@h locations right-click on the (empty) list view in the `Analysis' tab. You will get a popup menu, choose `Add...' here. A dialog box will appear, where you have to fill in the required entries. Choose a descriptive name for your SETI@home location, enter the corresponding directory, and select a color. That's all, you're done. After clicking `OK', Ksetiwatch should monitor your SETI@home location.
